Correct my mistakes, grammatical and other...?

In “A & P”, Sammy changes from a child to a man. He makes his decision and chooses to stick with it even though he knows it is not going to be easy for him, he says, “I felt how hard the world was going to be to me hereafter”(Updike). For Sammy, the girls represent something new. They are the change that Sammy he has needed for a long time. He needs this episode to help him be himself, the person he really wants to be. The moment he sees the girls he realizes that there must be more to the world than being a cashier. Sammy does not seem to like his job much. He calls one of his customers a witch, and says that the other customers are sheep. But by staying in the job, he is pleasing his parents, as Lengel says, “You don’t want to do this to your Mom and Dad”. Sammy replies, “It’s true, I don’t. But it seems to me that once you begin a gesture it’s fatal not to go through with it (Updike).” This short moment has changed Sammy; it turns him into a man. He after this moment can make his own decision and gets out to look for new things. Updike, the author wants people to sees how a very short period of time can change someone’s life.
